Unlike most other bar-b-q sauces Pappy Jay’s is handmade with love from Grandma Patsy (and often Pappy Jay too) Every jar of sauce is hand stirred and slow cooked in small batches; then hand poured and canned. Why even the label are applied by hand, Pappy Jay’s favorite job! High quality ingredients assure that each jar is as flavorful and delicious as the next. Pappy Jay’s Original and Pappy Jay’s with Horseradish are great on just about everything. Chicken, Pork, Beef, Venison, Shrimp, Scallops, Crab Cakes, Vegetables (my grandson even eats on Broccoli,) eggs, hot dogs, poured over cream cheese as a chip dip, or just straight from the jar as our friend Dale tell us! Use as an ingredient in meatloaf, sloppy joes, or shrimp dip. Just let your taste imagination be your guide.

I began making Pappy Jay’s Bar~B~Q Sauce from my husband’s family recipe years ago to use at friend & family gatherings. Folks would comment on how good it tasted. During my tenure as Director of Nursing (DON) at a nearby nursing home, I made sauce to give to the staff at Christmas. They liked it so much, they asked for it again the next year. Several even told me I could sell it!! I didn’t have the time or the means to take on such a venture, but I took what they said to heart. In May of 2007, I decided that I needed to give this business a try. Since I am in my early senior years, it was now or never. With mixed emotions I said goodbye to my DON position and began my bar~b~q sauce adventure. I decided to make a version with horseradish which blends so well with the flavor of the sauce and gives it that added “Kick.” I was able to rent a kitchen from the local fire company to get the business stared. After receiving products registration with the PA Department of Agriculture, the first batch was ready for sale in July. With much hopefulness (and some uncertainty,) Pappy Jay and I spent the summer of 2007 marketing the sauce via craft shows. The public responded positively and we have expanded into the retail market world. Pappy Jay’s Bar~B~Q Sauce is now made on our own property in an inspected kitchen which Pappy Jay built. We hope you enjoy eating Pappy Jay’s Sauces as much as we enjoy making them. With Love, Grandma Patsy
