The land now known as Norlo Park had humble beginnings. It began as 143 acers of gently rolling farm land dissected by the English Valley run in the Village of Fayetteville. Lying adjacent to US 30, Main Street in Fayetteville, and Township roads Lincoln Terrace and Hillview Drive, this dairy farm, known as Norlo Farm, was owned by the Sollenberger family from more than 130 years. On September 17, 1998, the Guilford Township Supervisors purchased Norlo farm from N. Lane and Judy K. Sollenberger for the purpose of creating a public park. While negotiating the sale with the Sollenbergers, the Supervisors offered to keep its namesake, Norlo, and that is how the park’s name originated. Norlo is derived from the beginning letter of Norman and Lois Sollenberger – Lane’s father and mother.nnToday, Norlo Park offers our community a gathering place, and holds tremendous potential for the future. Thanks to more than a decade of effort, Norlo Park offers beautiful natural areas, vast open spaces, and rich historic heritage. Our goal is to contribute to and promote healthy lifestyles in our community through the development and enhancement of Norlo Park’s recreational facilities, programs and activities.nnThe 143 acre 1880’s historic farm that now is the home of Norlo Park offers the Chamebrsburg area community a place to gather for sports, recreation, events, businesses, and education. The Barn, built in 1881, hosts events such as groups gatherings, parties, dances and weddings. The Farmhouse, circa 1885, is the home of non-profit offices namely the Conococheague Audubon Society, falling Spring Greenway, Inc., and the PA Forest Fire Museum Association. The Community center is available for events, has a commercial kitchen, and will provide for 150 guests. Facilities are available for rent.nnThere is a dog park, 5 softball fields, 3 soccer fields, 2 pavilions with onsite grills, playground area, over 3 miles of paved walking trails, horseshoe pits and tot lots. The park also offers 2 sand volleyball courts, 2 basketball courts, and 4 tennis courts. The original Quincy railroad station was relocated to Norlo Park, and there is a train for children and adults to enjoy a train ride, manned by members of Cumberland Valley Railway Historical Society. A passive display of two cabooses, a flat car, and a wooden tank car are also on site.
