The Cumberland Valley Railroad Museum features artifacts representing the histories of the Cumberland Valley, Penn Central, and Conrail Railroads and exhibits that depict the ways in which these railroads affected the region.
The museum is located inside a 1956 Penn Central 50-foot boxcar that had stood abandoned at the end of Queen Street, about a mile away from its current location. The Cumberland Valley Rails-to-Trails Council took possession of the boxcar in October 2017 and spent the next two years restoring it.
The Railroad Museum now serves as a focal point along with the Conrail Historical Society Museum at the Shippensburg Station trailhead of the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail (CVRT) and provides visitors with an opportunity to celebrate and learn more about CVRT’s heritage.
