The Monterey Pass Battlefield Association is a volunteer-based community organization comprised of individuals, living historians and community organizations dedicated to preserving the engagements that make up the battle of Monterey Pass. The Monterey Pass Battlefield Association has been organized for the specific purpose of supporting the Monterey Pass battlefield and the Civil War history of the surrounding areas. This support will be broad-based and will include educating the public regarding the battlefield’s presence and historical significance through interpretational programs. The association will also sponsor programs both on-site and off, telling the story of the battle of Monterey Pass and of the men who fought there and in the surrounding areas. As a community organization, The Monterey Pass Battlefield Association understands the importance of interpretation. Without it, you would not be able to understand the events of the past. This is why we consider our interpretational programs a very important aspect of what we do. Our interpretive programs and guided tours provide our visitors with a wealth of knowledge regarding several different topics relating to the Civil War history of the area. We are continually creating new programs to educate the public about the different aspects of the Civil War and how they relate to our community. We currently offer five different tours that relate to the Battle of Monterey Pass, containing a wide range of information that would interest the serious Civil War buff as well as the individual who is just learning about the battle of Monterey Pass. Currently, the Monterey Pass Battlefield has several Civil War Wayside Exhibits. These exhibits are located at Fountain Dale Fire Department, Hawley Memorial Presbyterian Church, Rolando Woods Lion’s Club Park and Pen Mar Washington County Park. We do offer a driving tour of the Monterey Pass Battlefield on our website. The tour itself is roughly 28 miles and takes about two and a half hours to complete. The tour covers some of the most rugged mountain roads known in the area. For more information, please visit our website. The Friends of Monterey Pass Battlefield, Inc. is a tax-exempt [501c3], non-stock corporation with a focus to promote and support educational programs, historical preservation, community improvement projects, cultural activities, and special projects that benefit the preservation and interpretation of lands with a historical significance of the Monterey Pass Battlefield, to include the retreat from Gettysburg. The FMPB, Inc. is also the governing body that oversees the battlefield, interpretive facilities and programing at the Washington Township battlefield park grounds of the Monterey Pass Battlefield. The FMPB, Inc. uses Management, Conceptual, Preservation, and Interpretation Plans that were written and adopted by the Washington Township Board of Supervisors in 2010. For information or questions about the Friends of the Monterey Pass Battlefield, Inc. please contact Alicia Miller.
