The Inn at Ragged Edge is a boutique bed and breakfast offering the perfect setting for relaxation and romance. Once famed for the parties held by the original owner, this beautiful historic mansion and grounds is still the perfect setting for any special event.

The Ragged Edge was built in 1900 – 1901 for Colonel Moorhead Kennedy. He was President of the Cumberland Valley Railroad and Vice-President of the Pennsylvania Railroad Company. The architect was Frank Furness of Philadelphia. Colonel Kennedy had a rail spur built to the opposite side of the creek from the house. A foot bridge and stone path brought guests across the creek and to the rear of the home. The rail bed and 2 iron bridges with the rails removed are still there. In 1913 a large addition was added in such a way that it looks original. Ragged Edge became the largest residence in Franklin County.

Colonel Kennedy entertained business executives, the Governors of Pennsylvania and Maryland, US Senators, Generals, bankers from New York and Philadelphia, PA Supreme Court Justices, corporate attorneys, university presidents, and prominent clergymen. Philadelphia caterers provided the food for his parties that could host as many as 200 guests. The Cumberland Valley Railroad sleeper cars served as sleeping quarters for many guests. In addition to his long career as a railroad official, Colonel Kennedy has a record of most honorable service in France and England during WW1.

The Kennedys used Ragged Edge as a summer home. Horses, geese and peacocks were among the many animals kept at Ragged Edge. There were orchards and beautiful gardens. The house across the road served as the farmhouse.

Now you can experience the luxury the Kennedy family enjoyed so long ago. Relax on the stone patio, walk along the creek and nature trail, or tune out the world in a whirlpool bath. Nine large guest rooms include a private bath, flat screen TV with DVD player, WiFi, fluffy white robes, chocolates and snacks.
